So I've been lurking and reading this newsgroup for.. well, a lot longer
than I care to think about, really.. and I think it's about time I
actually started to post occasionally. Only seems fair that after being
entertained and enlightened by all of you for so long, I should make
some attempt to return the favor. Time will tell how successful I'll
actually be in that regards.
And so: Hi! Nice to meetcha!

Hi, Jeff. I'll leave it to someone else to do the whole cat, alligator,
chair, cuppa routine, but... Jeff Howell? Am I being confused again or
do I recognise that name from elsenet?

So did I, but none of the top google results (building columnist, bass
player and actor) rings a bell. Um... C/C++ or naughty cartoons spring
to mind, but don't ask me why.
Oh, I guess I'll have to do the honours.
*ahem*
Welcome, Jeff! Pull up a chair and call the cat a bastard.

While it's not impossible, I don't often use my real name elsenet.. I
don't think it's a particularly uncommon name, though. Could be someone
else. However, if you think of where you recognize it from, I'd be
curious to know where.

I have no idea. :) I have done some programming in C++, but nothing
noteworthy, and while I may occasionally partake of a naughty cartoon,
I've never been involved in one. I suppose it may just be one of those
names..

Thank you, kind sir! I'll grab a comfy one near the fire, if no-one minds.

A wise choice - the comfy cat near the fire is almost always the biggest
bastard!

Hi indeed, and welcome! You'll have heard the stuff about cats and
alligators by now, so I'll just mention that you don't have to share the
chocolate, it's all for you.

Well, as it turns out, I'm one of those who firmly believes that there
is a such thing as 'enough' when it comes to chocolate, so I'm more than
willing to share regardless. Appreciate the thought, though!

I was going to say that there is no such thing as "enough" - only
"time for a break".
Then I remembered that the kit-kat slogan was, "Have a break: have a
kit-kat".
So instead, I am saying that there is no such thing as "enough" - only
"time to stop for a while".

Google finds ~440 postings by "Jeff Howell" besides
your recent afpostings:
http://groups.google.de/groups?q=author%3AJeff+author%3AHowe ll&filter=0
many of which were to alt.fiction.original in 2004/5.
In 2004, "you" have been spamming dozens of groups.
You have already posted to afp in 1995, BTW:
http://groups.google.de/group/alt.fan.pratchett/msg/389b26b5 3650daf9
In the 90ies, you've also been hanging out a lot in
alt.games.ultima.dragons and alt.games.programming.
You seem to have used Slackware, liked books (there's
repeated appearance in alt.books.gor), are a fan of
the redskins, seemd to have got married around the
turn of the millenium, and have been fishing at Lake
Huron. You make google mess up posting dates.

Those I can guarantee are not mine. :)

The single post to a dwarf song thread in 95 was, in fact, me. It was a
very short stay indeed. :)
The posts in AGUD are likewise mine, and you've missed entirely the
posts I apparently made to the Star Trek: Voyager group, which I'd
completely suppressed and had no memory of until looking just now. How odd.
Other than that.. I plead multiple personalities. ;)

It did, however, get preserved in The Archives[1], which might
be why folk round here recognise your name, but can't think
why.

Is it me or could the alchemists version, instead of being pronounced:
Ay you, Ay you, Ay you, Ay you
Ay you, Ay you, Ay you, Ay you
Ay you, Ay you, Ay you, Ay you
Ay you, Ay you, Ay you, Ay you
Instead be pronounced:
Ow, Ow, Ow, Ow
Ow, Ow, Ow, Ow
Ow, Ow, Ow, Ow
Ow, Ow, Ow, Ow
Which would dovetail nicely with the usual result of their experiments :)
